Vasa Museum Sweden

Vasa brings the 17th century to life for us. It is important for future generations to be able to experience this magnificent vessel and all the objects found with it.

 

The Vasa Museum is located on the island Djurgarden in Stockholm, Sweden. It is open 7 days a week, expected 1 January and 23-25 December.

Vasa is a Swedish warship built 1626-1628 by the King Gustavus Adolphus ,which sank during its maiden voyage, then it was salvaged and finally processed into Vasa Museum.

The museum has eleven permanent exhibitions describing the history of it and times in which the ship was built.

The collection consists of the Vasa itself and the staff that were found with the ship. With the sinking of the Vasa longship, time still stood. What have been saved in 1961, was the testimony of the seventeenth century intact. Each of the thousands of recovered object has a story. Among these are the bones of the crew, as well as their belongings and equipment of the ship.
