Contact Us Eyemouth is a calm provincial town at the Scottish coast. To be honest there are no big differences to the other calm provincial towns in the neighborhood except of the Eyemouth Maritime Center.
The museum which has the shape to give the outward impression of being an 18th century frigate is famous for their special and very deep going exhibitions. Such famous that even the Queen visited the place 2009 to walk through the former exhibition about the mutiny of the Bounty.
The current exhibition engages in a whole new issue - the British coastal smuggling up to the mid 19th century. "The smugglers" gives a fascinating insight into the world of the smuggler, at a time when commodities such as gin, brandy, wool, lace and tea became the 'meat and drink' of a clandestine world. Amongst others it shows typical boats for the smuggling, displays the spot of the exchanges, a replication of a gun deck and the "Smugglers Cave".
The museum is connected to the charity organization Eyemouth International Sailing Craft Association (EISCA). The EISCA maintains the "World of Boats", 400 boats of various type, origin and historical significance and is therefore one of the most meaningful collections in whole Europe. If you want to see the "World of Boats" you can make a special appointment - Another reason to come to Eyemouth.
